Microsoft Defender Antivirus provides the Windows antivirus layer alongside the proposed open-source detection and investigation tools.

  • Antivirus protection. Inspect files and processes using the supported antivirus configuration.
  • Protection status. Review whether antivirus protections and security intelligence are available.
  • Detection history. Examine recorded antivirus detections and actions in context.
  • Operating mode. Confirm active or passive behavior for the installed security configuration.

A supported Windows configuration and the appropriate Microsoft licensing. Defender Antivirus and the broader Defender for Endpoint service are distinct products.
